During the visit of the Iraqi Minister of Trade, Mr. Salman Al-Ghariri, to Iran for the Sixth Joint Commission Meeting on Economic Cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq, a symposium on ways to expand trade and economic cooperation between the two countries was held on Tuesday, May 9, 2024, at Espinas Palace Hotel. The meeting was attended by Mr. Salman Al-Ghariri, Iraqi Minister of Trade; Dr. Fekri, Deputy Minister of Economy and Head of the Organization for Investment and Financial Assistance; Dr. Al-e Es’hagh, Head of the Joint Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture of Iran and Iraq; Mr. Rabihaveri, Director General of the West Asia Office of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran; other officials from the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran; and 40 selected companies active in trade with Iraq.
At the beginning of the meeting, after a speech by Mr. Salman Al-Ghariri, the Iraqi Minister of Trade, Dr. Morteza Pouyan, founder of the Towzin Group, as the first speaker, addressed the proposal to upgrade Iraq’s standards in the field of weights and measures in coordination with the National Standards Organization of Iran. He also discussed the use of Iranian engineers and experts, as well as the capacity of Iranian knowledge-based companies, to implement intelligent road and rail transportation systems in Iraq.
He stated: “Iraq, as a constant friend and ally of Iran, can make significant progress in the field of ITS intelligent transportation systems by upgrading its standards in the field of weights and measures.” He added, “As someone who has, for the first time as an Iranian, received the ‘Man of the Year in Metrology’ award from the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) for contributing to better weighing practices worldwide, I am ready, with the support of both the Iranian and Iraqi governments, to invest in the intelligentization of Iraq’s land and rail transportation sector.” In another part of his speech, he said: “Iran, with its skilled engineers and Iranian knowledge-based companies, has a very high capacity to transfer its knowledge and technology to its brotherly and friendly country of Iraq. Therefore, with bilateral planning and interaction, we can achieve the intelligentization of Iraq’s roads in the field of transportation in the near future.”
After Dr. Morteza Pouyan’s speech, Mr. Salman Al-Ghariri, the Iraqi Minister of Trade, expressed his great pleasure at having met an Iranian expert and expressed his readiness for this cooperation.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Morteza Pouyan, as the founder of the Towzin Group, is the designer and innovator of intelligent load cell-based Weigh-in-Motion systems. These systems, developed by Fard Iran Company, which has 65 years of experience in the weighing industry and a decade of activity in the field of intelligent transportation, are currently installed in more than 120 locations on the main arteries of Iran. They are among the most accurate systems designed in the world for performing weighing operations in motion with online fine capabilities. It should be noted that a number of these systems have also been exported to Iraq and other neighboring countries so far. With the recognition of the outstanding performance of this system in weigh-in-motion and its high accuracy, numerous requests for cooperation with Fard Iran have been received from various countries.
With the potential in the field of transportation intelligentization within Fard Iran, we hope to soon witness the growth of exports of Fard Iran’s knowledge-based products to the world.
